Framing your new art print can be a daunting task, especially if you have never tried to do it yourself before, but the process is actually quite simple! Once you frame one or two prints by yourself, you'll want to deck every hall in your home with new and beautiful artwork.

How to Frame Your Art Prints

a simple guide to framing canvas or paper art prints by yourself

Before you begin to frame your print.. you first need a print to frame! Stephanie has a variety of art prints that were expertly photographed and edited to match the color and quality of the originals.

All Torregrossa prints are available on un-stretched canvas or paper. Canvas prints will be trimmed to the edge of the artwork, while paper prints will have a slight white border. This will help when framing your artwork, as instructed below.

Start with a print.

If it is within your budget and desire to have your print professionally framed, Stephanie suggests that you bring your print to a local frame shop. This can get costly, and you may have to patiently wait weeks or even months for your order to be fulfilled. While it may be worth the wait for an original painting to be framed, you can easily and affordably frame your art print yourself! Standard size frames can be found at most art supply stores and other retail stores. Stephanie recommends the following sources for a good quality, standard size frame for her prints:

Jerry's Artarama
Blick
Michaels
Target

Select a frame.

When you have your print and frame ready to go, you will also need acid free adhesive tape, scissors and a cloth to wipe the glass or plexiglass. Spray dust remover is also very handy for cleaning dust.

Step 1. On a clean surface, lay your frame face/glass down and lift the tiny metal "points" on the edges of the frame to remove the back.

Step 2. Center your paper print within the mat cutout, or if you choose not to mat your print, trim the paper to the edge of the artwork and place within the frame.

Step 3. Using acid free tape, adhere the print to the back of the mat. Make sure the image is centered.

Step 4. After cleaning the glass of dust, replace the back of the frame. Make sure the framing hooks are at the top.

Step 5. Press the "points" back down to secure the backing and keep your print from shifting or falling out. Stephanie uses a butterknife.

Step 6. You did it! Examine the front of the framed print and mat for dust or marks before hanging.

Step-by-step framing guide

That wasn't so bad, was it? It may take you a few tries to get the dust off the glass - that's the trickiest part - but once it's done, your art is ready to hang on the wall! Hanging artwork is very simple, inexpensive and requires only a few tools.

How to hang your new framed art

Once you hang one picture, odds are you will want to hang more! Every room in your home deserves one piece of art or another hanging on the wall. A picture hanging kit will come in handy now and in the future.

These are the tools you will need to hang most artwork:
D-rings and screws
Picture hanging wire

Use your tools safely. Hold your artwork up and measure the best position for your wall. TIP: the center of the artwork should be at eye level, so position the piece accordingly on the wall.
